Channel
A channel of a GPS receiver consists of the circuitry necessary to receive the signal from a single GPS satellite.

ETA
Estimated Time of Arrival.

Expansion Slot
Slots into which memory cards can be inserted to increase data storage.

Flash Memory
Flash memory is a non-volatile memory device that retains its data even when power is removed.

GPS
Global Positioning System. This is global navigation system based on 24 or more satellites orbiting the earth and providing very precise, worldwide positioning and navigation information 24/7.

GPS Receiver
This is a piece of electronic equipment that passively receives a GPS signal for processing. A receiver may be hand-held, carried on your person or mounted in a vehicle.

Li-Ion Battery
A reachargeable type of battery that offers reliable long-lasting power between charges.

PDA
Short for personal digital assistant, a handheld device that combines computing, telephone/fax, Internet and networking features.

POI
Points of Interest. Most Sat Navs allow you to put in your own Points Of Interest on your mapped out route. These points of interest are generally preloaded by the manufacturer and include Petrol Stations, Car Parks, Shopping Centres, Hospitals, Railway Sations, Hotels etc.

PNA
Personal Navigation Assistant. These are dedicated satelllite navigation units that are specifically built for the purpose of navigation.

Sat Nav
A satellite navigation system that can be hosted on a variety of devices such as handheld computers, laptop computers, Smartphones and dedicated satellite navigation units installed in cars.

SD Card
Secure Digital, a postage stamp sized memory card that comes in different sizes of memory capacity. You can hold thousands of files on a 1GB SD Card. Some cards can be as large as 4GB.

Smartphone
A handheld device that integrates the functionality of a mobile phone, personal digital assistant (PDA) or other information appliance.
